Child Support
The Marshall County District Attorney’s Office contracts with the Marshall County Department of Human Resources (DHR) to provide legal services for the Child Support Unit.
The Child Support Division of the District Attorney’s Office was established to represent the interests of the State of Alabama in ensuring that children receive the financial support required by law.
This division handles a range of legal actions, including:
- Acquiring contempt actions for failure to pay
- Enforcing out-of-state support orders under the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA)
- Filing new child support petitions
- Modifying existing support orders
- Submitting income withholding orders
- Working in other legal matters, as referred by DHR
While the interests of the State and the custodial or non-custodial parent may sometimes align, the Child Support Division attorney does not represent either parent or guardian. For questions or concerns about your child support case, please contact the Marshall County DHR Child Support Unit directly at (256) 582-7100.
