Training Strengthens Law Enforcement’s Response to Domestic Violence
This week, the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office hosted a specialized training course titled “Empowering Law Enforcement: Mastering Domestic Violence Investigations & Prosecutions” at the Boaz Public Library. The seminar was designed to help law enforcement officers strengthen their knowledge and skills when responding to and investigating domestic violence cases.
Sponsored by the Office of Prosecution Services and the Alabama District Attorneys Association, the training offered legal instruction, case-building strategies, and courtroom preparation—all tailored to the complex dynamics of domestic violence investigations. Gabrielle Helix, Domestic Violence Resource Prosecutor for the Office of Prosecution Services, served as the featured speaker, sharing practical strategies and expert insights drawn from her extensive experience in prosecuting domestic violence cases.
The event was made possible in part by the Boaz Police Department, who generously partnered with the District Attorney’s Office to host the training at no cost at the Boaz Public Library.
The training drew strong attendance from law enforcement agencies across North Alabama and received generous support from local sponsors. Cothran’s Bakery, Howard Bentley Buick GMC, The Superior Roof, Dale’s BBQ, and Mill Street Deli provided meals and refreshments throughout the event.
Beverly Bozarth, Victim Services Officer for the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office, highlighted the training’s value: “Domestic violence cases are complex and emotionally charged. The more our officers understand what victims are going through and how to build strong cases, the better we can protect and support those who need us most.”
With hands-on instruction and practical legal guidance, the training proved both educational and impactful—equipping officers with the tools and confidence needed to better serve victims and pursue justice.
